Waldorf Astoria Osaka vs. Conrad Osaka
With the recent opening of Waldorf Astoria in Osaka, there’s now two luxury options in the city within the Hilton portfolio after the Conrad.
After staying at both hotels, I come to the conclusion that they are close in terms of stay quality, and each properties have their own merits and drawbacks, and I’ll explain why in different categories.
I’ll only cover the bread and butter of both hotels, but you may read my separate reviews of Waldorf Astoria Osaka and Conrad Osaka to get a fuller picture of each hotels.
Waldorf Astoria vs. Conrad Osaka- Location
The Waldorf Astoria is located within the Grand Green Osaka, a newly-built shopping complex in Umeda district. It’s a lively location that includes an outdoor green space and fancy shops and restaurants. While it’s close to Osaka Station complex, it takes roughly 10 minutes to get to the station. It’s a maze down there so it’d take time to get used to to navigate within the underground complex.
Conrad Osaka’s location is to the south of the Waldorf, and its vicinity is less exciting since there are mostly business skyscrapers around. However, metro connection (Higobashi Station of Yotsubashi Line) is much better as it’s just underneath the Conrad’s entry down the escalator.
Waldorf Astoria vs. Conrad Osaka- Elite Benefits
Hilton Gold and Diamond members get free breakfast at both hotels. They’ll also get 25% discount on restaurants inside the hotel.
Waldorf Astoria offers 4000 yen daily credit towards restaurants, bars, and spa for Diamond members. Though it remains to be seen if that changes after the introduction of Diamond Reserve status in 2026. The daily credit can then stack with the 25% discount as well!
Conrad Osaka does not offer any sort of property credit however. Though, all guests will receive a rubber ducky and small bear that made for nice souvenirs and is a signature thing they do of the Conrad brand.
Waldorf Astoria vs. Conrad Osaka- Rooms
Size
In terms of size, Conrad’s base rooms are larger at 50sqm compared to Waldorf’s at 48sqm. They’re both pretty large for Japanese hotels, so you’ll find them adequate at both.

In terms of bed size, the length in Waldorf Astoria Osaka is quite short, so taller people might not be comfortable with them unlike Conrad’s.

As a little extra, Conrad as a brand tends to give out animal toys, and in Conrad Osaka, you’d get a small bear with different design depending on season and a transparent rubber ducky.

Amenities
Both rooms offer similar levels of in-room amenities like electronic touchpad for lighting and curtain controls. Though, the Waldorf Astoria also has manual switches by the bed in addition.
However, Waldorf Astoria does not include a Bluetooth speaker and 3-prong plugs! Not having a Bluetooth speaker in a sky-high hotel is very disappointing! But, you won’t need to worry about those in the Conrad.
Upgrade Chances
Waldorf Astoria offers more suite types starting at 93sqm so naturally you’d have better chance on getting upgraded to a suite compared to Conrad. Though, getting a Premium Room upgrade at 50sqm instead is more of a realistic expectation.
Conrad doesn’t have many suites, so getting upgraded to them will be more challenging than at the Waldorf. But, getting upgraded to their Executive Rooms (which are corner rooms) can be a realistic expectation, and they”re sized around 66sqm. That’s roughly the same size of a typical luxury hotel suite!
Bathroom
Both hotels consist of separate bathtubs, shower, and toilet rooms within the bathroom area. But, the Waldorf Astoria’s bathroom is the more typical one with regular-looking bathtub and shower pressure that was just OK for a luxury hotel. Conrad’s bathroom has a round-shaped bathtub which is less common and the showers had some of the best pressures I’ve had in a hotel!

Waldorf Astoria vs. Conrad Osaka- Hotel Design
Waldorf Astoria Osaka comes with the more unique design consisting of art deco and modern Japanese style blend. The concept was made reality by Andre Fu, a renowned interior designer who was also responsible on other luxury hotels in Japan like Hotel the Mitsui in Kyoto.

Conrad Osaka has a more contemporary modern design that will still pleases many eyes. It utilizes dark wood walls in contrast of the Waldorf Astoria for a more moody atmosphere.

Waldorf Astoria vs. Conrad Osaka- Breakfast
Waldorf Astoria’s breakfast is the hotel’s weakest point in my opinion because it lacks variety and shockingly not many Japanese menu.

Conrad Osaka’s breakfast is much more varied and I’ll have to say that the Conrad has the Waldorf beat in breakfast category.

Waldorf Astoria vs. Conrad Osaka- Facilities
Bars & Restaurants
Both hotels have in-property bars and restaurants, and elite members can enjoy discounts at either establishments.
Waldorf Astoria Osaka has a very beautiful Peacock Alley, a signature bar of the Waldorf Astoria brand. Very grandiose with an amazing view as backdrop!
Conrad Osaka also has a bar on its lobby floor, though it does not look as impressive as Peacock Alley. If hotel bars are your thing, pick the Waldorf Astoria.

At the Conrad, I managed to try their Kura restaurant, which has sushi and teppanyaki. I only got to try out the teppanyaki, and I thought it was very good! Still, you can get better value around Osaka outside of the hotel for similar quality of food, even after discount. Waldorf Astoria has a fine dining restaurant counterpart named Tsuki, but I didn’t try it out because of the value.

Lounge
Waldorf Astoria has no “executive lounge”, but it does have a “Library”, a small quiet space where you can have coffee and tea, and read some books.

Conrad has a real executive lounge with different offerings including coffees, tea, alcohol, and food.

I typically don’t value lounges in general, especially in a big city like Osaka where I’d rather eat outside, but I can attest that Conrad’s lounge is nicer and more spacious than Waldorf Astoria’s library.
Pool
Both hotels have swimming pool and jacuzzi by the locker rooms as well. They’re all quite nice, but the one in Waldorf has an infinity edge with a more complete outside view. Thus, the one in Waldorf is slightly nicer.

Waldorf Astoria vs. Conrad Osaka- Points Requirements
Waldorf Astoria Osaka charges the highest Hilton points in the city at 120,000 points/night. Conrad Osaka charges 110,000 points at most though can go down to 90,000 when it’s not busy (weekdays)! I suspect the opening of Waldorf Astoria may have influenced this for the older Conrad to remain competitive with the newer Waldorf Astoria.
If you happen to be able to book the Conrad for 90k points/night, then the Conrad will be a substantially better bang for your buck, and I’d easily recommend anyone to pick the Conrad over the Waldorf at that price.
However, when it comes to 120k vs 110k points, then I believe it’s a wash and you should pick whichever you think looks better. You can’t go wrong with either choice.
Conclusion
I’d say that both the Waldorf Astoria and Conrad Osaka are quite similar to each other, and the Conrad still holds up well despite being the older hotel. Though it’s kind of disappointing that the Waldorf Astoria doesn’t have much in terms of objective improvements for being the newer hotel.
Overall, I can easily recommend anyone with the Conrad for those who wants a nice hotel to stay at in Osaka, and I’d pick the Waldorf Astoria for those who have stayed at the Conrad before just to try out a new hotel, or for those who enjoy hotel bars all around.
