Six Senses Kyoto Opening in May 2024

Another new luxury hotel will open in Kyoto some time in May 2024. Six Senses Kyoto is now accepting reservations from May 18, 2024 and we can expect the hotel would open some time in Spring of 2024. IHG points booking isn’t possible yet, but the cash rate starts at around ~$750 a night. A reasonable expectation for points booking is to shell out at least 100k IHG points just for 1 night.

Six Senses Kyoto Details

Six Senses Kyoto will be located in Higashiyama Ward, and the property itself will be across Four Seasons Kyoto. Kyoto’s attractions are quite spread out, but the hotel is close to Ninenzaka, Sannenzaka and Kiyomizu-dera, which are pretty popular amongst tourists in Kyoto.

There are only 81 guest rooms including the suites, and they’re built around a central courtyard with a big Japanese garden. Room size starts at 42 sqm for the base, and deluxe rooms and higher categories may include outdoor balconies facing the garden or the city.

My thoughts on Six Senses Kyoto

I’m excited that IHG is becoming competitive within Kyoto’s luxury hotel market. Currently, IHG’s sole footprint in Kyoto is the Crowne Plaza across Nijo Castle and the neighboring HOTEL THE MITSUI Kyoto from Marriott’s Luxury Collection. The onsen spa in particular looks fabulous and I wonder how it’d compare with HOTEL THE MITSUI Kyoto since I used their underground onsen spa every day of my fabulous stay there!

Sadly, even though I will be in Japan in 2024, I would be too early for its opening, and I’d be trying the Roku LXR instead. For future visits, I’d surely check what people would say about this hotel. Hopefully, the points redemption in Six Senses Kyoto will be favorable, especially with the 4th Night Free benefit from IHG credit cards. My concern is how plentiful the award availability will be as Six Senses is one of IHG’s brands that don’t really give out award availability for IHG points redemptions.
