JW Marriott Tokyo Opening October 2, 2025

The JW Marriott Tokyo will be opening soon in October 2025 and more details has just came out including cash and points rates. It will be Tokyo’s first JW Marriott after there has only been one JW Marriott in all of Japan located in Nara City famous for its deers.

JW Marriott Tokyo Details

The hotel will be in Takanawa Gateway City, a new urban development with rooftop garden, shops, and restaurants contained in one big space. Takenawa Gateway City itself opened in March 2025, and not many of their planned facilities has opened yet, and I assume many more will open by the time JW Marriott also opens.

Takanawa Gateway City itself is connected to the Takanawa Gateway Station that serves JR lines like Yamanote Line for easy access to major destinations within the more central Tokyo and the Keihin-Tohoku Line towards Yokohama. So when it comes to convenience to transportation, the JW Marriott will be a good choice.

Guest room size starts at 43sqm (463 sqft) with some rooms offering bay views. There are few suite types ranging from Junior Suite upwards to Presidential Suite, so possibly upgrades could be somewhat generous. Then again, Tokyo is very competitive in that regard.

The hotel will have an executive lounge, so elite members will possibly have their free breakfast there. Other facilities include six restaurants, spa, gym, and an indoor swimming pool that looks stunning.

JW Marriott Tokyo Cash & Points Rates

You can expect to pay at least 100,000 yen per night (roughly $700+ USD) at the JW Marriott Tokyo which is very expensive and is in line with the rest of other hotels with international branding in Tokyo.

Sadly, the points rate are very discouraging as it appear to be a Category 9 hotel, meaning that the points requirement is at the same level of the hotels like Hotel the Mitsui Kyoto and Ritz-Carlton Kyoto within Japan.

Thus, the JW Marriott Tokyo will be the most expensive Marriott hotel in Tokyo when it comes to points redemption, even triumphing The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo, Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho (Luxury Collection), and the two EDITION hotels in Toranomon Hills & Ginza.

Redeeming 85K Certificates for the JW Marriott Tokyo will be impossible even with the 15k topups, where you’d at least still have a chance in the aforementioned hotels. We can only hope for PointsSavers rates to come up in the future.

My thoughts on the upcoming JW Marriott Tokyo

I think the hotel looks very nice and would love to try staying at least a night there. But, the prices both in cash and points are too steep to justify, especially in Tokyo. Even though the hotel has a near-direct access to trains, it is still no central Tokyo and is in a sleepier part of the city, so it’s shocking that it commands such a high price that’s even higher than the existing Marriotts within the luxury brands that are in the middle of it all. I was thinking that they’d lower the price to compensate for the less central location like what’s seen with Mesm Tokyo, Marriott Tokyo, and Prince Sakura Tower.

Since I won’t be able to redeem 85K certificates here, the JW Marriott Tokyo will be a skip for me because the opportunity cost is way too high and Marriott points are hard to earn back. Ultimately, it just feels really bad burning a lot of points in a city like Tokyo where I won’t spend a lot of time inside the hotel.
